Fuel Price Hike: Rising petrol and diesel prices across the country are showing drops for the common man. In some states, the price of a liter of petrol has already gone up by a century (Rs 100). In other states, it is close to Rs 100. The general public is afraid to take the vehicle in view of the record high fuel prices. Their anger is being expressed through the media on social media. Each party has been criticized for targeting the ruling party over the rise in fuel prices.
Both parties are demanding that the central and state governments reduce tariffs in the wake of record oil prices. However, in this context, 4 states in the country have reduced taxes on petrol and diesel. Political analysts say the tariffs have been reduced because elections will be held in those states soon.
Currently, state taxes on petrol and diesel have been reduced in West Bengal, Assam, Rajasthan and Meghalaya. Even after the reduction, the diesel price in Delhi is lower than these three states.
In West Bengal, where elections are imminent, the government has announced a Rs 1 lakh reduction in VAT on Fuel Price Hike petrol and diesel. In four states, Meghalaya has slashed petrol prices by Rs 7.40 per liter and diesel by Rs 7.10 per liter.
The Rajasthan government had in January reduced VAT on oil prices from 38 per cent to 36 per cent. Assam also decided on February 12 to reduce the corona additional tax by Rs. After tax, petrol is priced at Rs 91.78 in Kolkata, Rs 86.87 in Shillong, Rs 87.24 in Guwahati and Rs 97.10 in Jaipur.
